Winter Weather Decisons

Winter Weather: How We Make the Decision to Cancel School or Open Late
As we prepare for the winter months, we want to share how the district will handle school closures due to severe weather during the 2025–2026 school year. Our goal is to keep families informed in advance and minimize disruption to learning whenever possible.
First Weather-Related Closure
- The first day school is closed due to weather will be a traditional snow day.
- Students will not attend school, and no work will be required.
- This day will not need to be made up.
Second Weather-Related Closure
- If a second closure is needed, the district will add an in-service day for staff at the end of the school year.
- This day is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, 2026.
- Students will not attend school on this day.
Additional Closures: Flexible Instructional Days (FID)
- If additional closures are necessary beyond the first two days, the district will use up to five (5) Flexible Instructional Days (FID).
- On FID days:
- Students will learn from home
- Instruction will be primarily asynchronous
- These days will count as regular school days and will not need to be made up
What Students Will Do on an FID
- Teachers will post assignments by 9:00 a.m.
- Seesaw for elementary students (K–5)
- Canvas for middle and high school students (6–12)
- Attendance will be demonstrated by completing the assigned work.
- Optional virtual check-ins or support sessions may be offered.
- Students without internet access will have alternative options, including printed materials.
Being Prepared
- Families and students will be reminded throughout the winter to ensure that students bring home:
- District-issued devices
- Chargers
- Any necessary materials
- This preparation helps ensure students can participate fully if an FID is called.
Extended Closures
- In the unlikely event that closures extend beyond five FID days, the district may use February 13 and/or April 6 as regular instructional days to meet state instructional requirements.
How We Will Communicate
- Families will be notified of closures and FID days through:
- School Messenger (phone, text, email, and app notifications)
- The district website
- School communication platforms
How is the decision made?
The Directors of Operations and Transportation and Dr. Berrios all monitor various weather outlets and receive hourly reports from the National Weather Service. Multiple employees drive to monitor the situation in various areas of the District and provide information on road conditions, as well as the safety of bus stops and sidewalks.
Additionally, we work with the Superintendents of the Palisades and Quakertown School Districts. Our three districts often make the same decision since we all send students to the Upper Bucks County Technical School.
When is the decision made?
There will be situations when the decision can be made the night before. We will inform all families and staff, using our mass notification system via email, text blast, and phone messages, in those cases, no later than 10:00 PM. If you have not heard by then, you will know that the decision will not be made until the morning.
Decisions made in the morning will be communicated to you between 4:30 AM and 5:15 AM.
What about early dismissals?
Decisions regarding early dismissals will be made by 9:30 AM. Depending on the forecast, the High School will close at 10:30 or 11:30, Middle Schools at 11:15 or 12:15, Guth and Sellersville at 11:45 or 12:45, Bedminster, Deibler, Grasse, Seylar, and West Rockhill at 12:00 or 1:00.
Please ensure that your child is familiar with their routine for any early dismissal.
How will the decision be communicated?
All emergency communications are posted to the website and sent via email, phone call, and text. In the event of a weather situation, the information is also provided to local radio and television stations and is posted on the District Facebook.
We use the information from your Power School Parent Portal Account for these communications. It is important to make sure that this information is accurate. You may view and edit this information through the “Demographic Info” tab in Power School. If you need additional assistance, please contact your child’s school.
We know that some of you will not always agree with a weather decision that we make. Please know we are working from the best information available and will, in all situations, prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
