WIDA Testing Information

WIDA ACCESS for ELLs testing will occur with all English Language Learners this winter during the testing window (January 5 – February 17). The test will assess your child’s English Language Skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The assessment, called ACCESS for ELLs – which assesses Comprehension and Communication in English from State to State for English Language Learners, is used throughout the state of Pennsylvania and most of the country.

This assessment identifies your child’s language skills in both social and academic English. Social language is used to communicate for everyday purposes. Academic language is used to communicate in the content of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. A Parent Guide is attached to this document to help you better understand the assessment.

Please contact your child’s school ESL teacher if you have any questions regarding this required annual test.

More information about this assessment can be found at https://wida.wisc.edu/resources.
