Summary of the AFG Validation Team Report to Middle States Association


Reasons to Celebrate:


o First of all, the Validation Team has recommended to MSA to grant Pennridge High School accreditation.
o District and school act in the spirit of their mission to provide the finest education possible for all PHS students.
o PHS is fortunate to find students and faculty willing to be active participants in the process of making the school a better place for all.
o Academic programs receive a regular, systematic evaluation to assure curricular standards are being adjusted to meet PSSA requirements while providing the best instruction for students.
o PHS’ physical plant stands as ample testimony to its community’s high level of commitment and support of its schools.
o Pennridge Pride!
    • This slogan, clearly a driving force for students, faculty, and staff, clearly emphasizes the community approach PHS has chosen to adopt.
    • The HS administration has created and maintained programs that foster a small-community feeling for students and staff.
    • Teachers at PHS are energetic, committed, determined to educate all students equally well.
    • PHS shows itself more than willing to recognize students and faculty who embody Pennridge Pride.
    • All students have the potential to serve individually, collectively, and cooperatively as informed decision-makers, problem-solvers, and lifelong learners.

o PHS provides a safe, orderly environment for teaching and learning.
o The use of an electronic grade book provides real-time access to grades as well as assignments.
o PHS offers a broad array of support services.
o Food services are outstanding in every respect, a model for schools nationwide.
o By and large an attitude of mutual respect exists among students and staff.
o PHS boasts a well-funded, well-endowed library housing extensive print and electronic, web-based sources.
o Technology is fully ingrained in the educational program at PHS.


Recommendations:


o Create a mission statement and belief statements for the high school to provide PHS with its own identity, purpose and aspirations.
o Create and foster a decision-making structure to actively solicit and listen to all stakeholders will produce a more collaborative, positive process in which all may feel fully invested and in which all may take justifiable pride.
o Welcoming input from all stakeholders is essential to effective planning.


Next Steps:


o Continue to implement our AFG plan for growth and improvement
o Continue with retention and expansion of our AFG Planning Team
o Conduct periodic reviews, including data collection and department progress reports
o Complete a mid-term report at the beginning of the third year of the accreditation term
o Prepare for reaccreditation at the beginning of the sixth year of the accreditation term

Objective 1:

By June 2016, students at Pennridge High School will improve student performance in mathematics and reading skills.

By June 2016, students at Pennridge High School will improve citizenship skills.
